SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A new entertainment and concert hall is now open in Springfield’s Forest Park neighborhood.
“We’re really committed to bringing unique and different options in the area,” 52 Sumner Ave Executive Director Angela Park told us.
Formally known as the Faith United Church, 52 Sumner Avenue is now Springfield Performing Arts Ventures.
“Our first live event was in February and we’ve had one a month since then including bringing in a national act 2010 Grammy winner, we have another Grammy winner coming in July to do three kids shows,” board of directors member Dan McKellick said.
But the venue isn’t just used for music, as Angela Park told us they plan on bringing in something for everybody.
“The music arts, that whole community is dying, we don’t have a ton here in Springfield of community programming centers, so we are looking to bring art, as far as pottery classes or drawing classes, we are covering all areas of art not just music,” Park explained.
Springfield Performing Arts Ventures is a non-profit organization, meaning all proceeds go back into programming.
Organizers told us it’s important to have programs like this in Springfield, keeping things low-cost so even the city’s youngest residents can enjoy and have access to the arts.
“To have kids see you’re here in Springfield, music isn’t just made in Nashville or LA or New York, it’s made all over, and everybody’s dreams can come true and stick with it and stay off the streets and follow your passion.”
