EA College Football 25
EA College Football 25 will be released on July 19 (July 15, early access). It will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X and is already listed as one of the Top 10 games on the PlayStation Store.
While there is no doubt how huge the return of college football will be to the gaming space, the July release is just the beginning of a wave of sports video game releases arriving rapidly through October.
Here’s what’s on tap for sports gamers.
It’s been 13 years since the last official college football game was released. I’ve played the upcoming game, and while there are a couple of pieces of functionality that won’t carry over in Year 1 (complete roster editing and exporting draft classes), the gameplay, visuals, dynasty mode depth, and presentation will likely exceed expectations.
This game will be a massive success and a must-have for sports video game fans.
It’s easy for EA’s NFL product to get lost in the shuffle this year, given that so much attention has been paid to the return of the college game. However, I’ve also gotten a chance to play Madden 25, and it will be a strong year for the franchise.
I believe we’ll see boosts in gameplay. The visuals are better, and the franchise mode is deeper than it has been in more than a decade.
It’s going to be a good year for video game football.
We know little about the upcoming NBA 2K title, but information should begin shortly. The franchise has become a juggernaut with a reach far beyond the sports video game genre.
It makes sense to expect another massive, high-profile release. If previous years are a good indication, expect to see NBA 2K released in early September.
Like the NBA 2K franchise, EA FC–even as a rebranded series–is wildly popular. The push toward the series is even more significant because world football is the biggest sport globally.
We don’t know the specifics around the release, but we do know another massive game is being developed at EA Vancouver, and the publisher/developer will be looking to up the ante.
EA FC is likely set for a late-September release.
Sometimes, it feels like the NHL is EA’s forgotten series. I have fun with it almost every year, but the promotion behind it doesn’t feel as strong, at least not in the United States–which is perhaps understandable.
In any case, this year’s game should still be released in early October. Unfortunately, it follows EA FC, NBA 2K, Madden, and now College Football, which is a tough spot.
Now, another major release will be even closer to the NHL 25 drop.
The thirst for a return of boxing to the video game space wasn’t quite as intense as the yearning for EA College Football, but some would argue it was close.
The last AAA boxing game on this level for consoles was Fight Night Champion, released 14 years ago.
Finally, after a lengthy run on Steam Early Access, Undisputed will be released on October 11 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
If you need to make your buying decisions any tougher over the next few months, consider that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be released on October 24.
Good luck. You’re going to need a bigger hard drive.
